The King is Dead, Long Live the King.

That might be the best summation on how some of us at LTOL are feeling today when the owner announced that over the Christmas Holiday she had purchased a NEW MAIL SERVER.

We at LTOL do indeed pride ourselves in our customer service but let’s face it, spam email is a pain in the backside. We all hate it, and the kingly mail server that we have been using has been doing a good job, but with the way that spammers have been creating new tricks to get around the fixes we have in place, we had all started feeling like that little Dutch boy with our fingers in the dike. Luckily we all have 8 fingers two thumbs and each have been members of the Olympic gymnastic team so we could still answer the phone with our fingers placed where they are keeping the mail server going.

Mail servers use to have that cool thing that the only thing they had to do was, process mail. Go figure. I mean seriously you sent an email, the server said yes, you are a good email address and poof off it went into the ether of the internet.

Today, mail servers have to be able to do web mail, being able to be seen from any computer on the internet, send bulk emails 20, 30, 50, 100 at a time, authenticate that all of those are indeed legitimate emails, stop what spam they can, stop what virus’ they can, stop what phishing they can, and of course make coffee and toast and pizza for the IT staff.

So, LTOL has purchased a new mail server machine, a new mail server software program. The new software does allow the end user, that’s you oh gentle snowflakes of LTOL, to set up your own spam filters even MORE stringent then you have now, your own white and blacklists and a few more goodies that LTOL will be rolling out when the new mail server goes live.

Oh, the special part, when I’m sure you’re asking. We are hoping by the end of January to go live, we do want to take out any hiccups before we let everyone play on the new machine, some of you might get to be some of our product testers, don’t forget bribery does indeed work with the people on the telephone lines of LTOL, we appreciate pizza and sodas, Mountain Dew Red being an especial favorite.

As a follow up, the server has arrived and is being instruced on what to do, given it's pizza allotment for the month and things like that.
